With Hail Storm I wanted to convey the idea of a hailstorm abstractly through movement and color. I chose to combine methodical unidirectional marks with chaotic dimples to represent the motion and feel of the storm. Although the colors in the two prints are different they both come from the colors seen before, during and after the a storm.
I completely let go; I relaxed, and didn't over plan with this print, letting the block guide me through the piece’s creation. Although I let go, I felt in complete control of the marks, and a part of the wood working with the grain; making it participate the creation, not just something that is acted upon.
Mark Sims for photographing this peice.
